Abortion. The subject of abortion has become one of the most controversial issues in health care; deciding whether to abort a life or keep it. There are many ethical issues surrounding the topic. When does the fetus become a person? Is it when they grow arms and legs? Is it when there is a heartbeat? Is there an exact point, where ethically, having an abortion is wrong? There are many reasons people opt to have an abortion. Perhaps the child is bared through non consensual sex or from the failure of birth control. It is considered acceptable under those circumstances to end a life mostly because it’s a life that wasn’t exactly wanted in the first place, but is it acceptable for a child s life to end when the parents discover their child has a genetic disorder? Now, through genetic testing, parents can see if their child has a genetic disorder before their child is even born, and many parents consider or even opt to abort their child due to the discovery of a disabilit y. Wilfred Owen’s ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’ and ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ are both poems that protest against and depict the subject of war. They both follow Wilfred Owen’s angst against those who encourage war and the savagery of warfare that he experienced himself. His poetry was devised to strike at the conscience of England during the World War. Both poems show the suffering and immorality of war and affect the reader in a slightly different ways. ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’ questions the reader’s integrity and draws attention to the real hardships faced by soldiers during the war. ‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’ does not question the reader, but has a sad and touching tone that creates an image of the way in which these soldiers ended their lives. At first when Ms. Mallard hears the news about her husband’s death she is shocked and in great pain because of the loss. But after giving it another thought, she realized that a lot of pressure has just been taken off of her shoulders. â€Å"Free, Body and soul free† (page 1). For the first time in her life she feels free. This was a rare event at that time, because women did not have a lot of rights and were brought to a lower state within society. At the time when her husband had still been alive she did not really do a lot nor speak. She now has the liberty she has been seeking for during her marriage and is free to do anything she desires now that her husband has passed. I personally think that the cause of Mrs. Mallard’s sudden feeling of freedom is ignited by the news of her husband’s death. Of course she was in shock at first and thought about her husband and that he will never return. This was the turning point though, she realized that the man that had never shown her any love was gone and this meant she would win her freedom back and could finally think by herself again. Mrs. Mallard was free again and has gotten her individuality back, even if it was caused by a very sad incident.
